01ISO A-series sizes in mm
Each size is half of the one before it, so a drawing scales down from A1 to A3 at exactly half (1:50 becomes 1:100) and stays readable.
| Sheet | Size (mm) | Typical scale | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| A0 | 841 × 1189 | 1:50 – 1:100 | Site plan, large plans, competition boards |
| A1 | 594 × 841 | 1:50 – 1:100 | Plans, sections and elevations |
| A2 | 420 × 594 | 1:50 – 1:20 | Smaller buildings, details |
| A3 | 297 × 420 | 1:20 – 1:5 | Details, schedules, the set for site |
| A4 | 210 × 297 | — | Cover, drawing list, notes |
02How Revit decides the size of a sheet
A sheet in Revit is a view with a title block on it. The title block family draws the border, and that border is the sheet. To have an A0 sheet you need an A0 title block. Revit ships metric title block templates (A0 metric.rft to A3 metric.rft) under Family Templates → Titleblocks, but the families they make are empty frames.
Rather than one family per size, make one title block family with a type per format: width and height as type parameters, the border lines locked to them, the stamp locked to the lower-right corner. Changing a sheet from A1 to A0 is then one click in Properties, and the stamp stays where it was.
03Margins and the title block
- Frame: 20 mm from the left edge for binding, 10 mm from the top, right and bottom (ISO 5457).
- Stamp in the lower-right corner, no wider than 180 mm (ISO 7200), so it is in the same place when the sheet is folded to A4.
- Labels, not text: every value in the stamp is a label that reads Project Information or a sheet parameter. Typed text is what goes wrong on sheet 40.
- Fold marks on A0 to A2, so the printed set folds to A4 with the stamp on top.

04Printing to scale
- File → Print → Setup: choose the paper that matches the title block (ISO A0, A1…).
- Zoom: 100% size. “Fit to page” shrinks the sheet and the scale bar lies.
- Paper placement: Center, or Offset from corner 0, depending on the printer’s margins.
- Hidden line views: Vector processing, for sharp lines in the PDF.
05Exporting PDF at the right size
Since Revit 2022 the built-in PDF export (File → Export → PDF) can read the size from each sheet: set Paper format: Use sheet size, and an A0 sheet and an A3 sheet come out as one A0 page and one A3 page in the same export. Name the files from sheet parameters, for example number and name, and the set is ready to send.
Check: open the PDF, set it to 100% and measure the frame in the PDF viewer. An A1 frame should be 594 × 841 mm minus the margins. If not, the zoom or the paper is wrong.
06Sizes outside the A series
Long elevations and site sections sometimes need an elongated sheet, such as A3×3 (420 × 891 mm) or A1×3. Add them as more types of the same title block; a plotter on roll paper prints any length.
How DATUM does it
The DATUM Revit template has one title block on every format: presentation sheets from A4 to A0, working sheets from A3 to A0. The stamp keeps its size and its corner, every value in it is a label, and the revision schedule is built in. The size of a sheet becomes a late decision, not an early one.

Questions
What is the size of an A0 sheet in Revit?
841 × 1189 mm, the ISO 216 size. Revit takes it from the title block family: an A0 title block draws a border of that size, and you print it on ISO A0 paper at 100%.
How do I change the sheet size in Revit?
Select the title block on the sheet and pick another type or family in Properties. If your title block has a type per format, it is one click; otherwise load the title block of the size you need and swap it.
Why does my Revit PDF not print to scale?
Usually Zoom is set to Fit to page, or the paper does not match the title block. Print at 100% size on the matching paper, or in Export PDF use Paper format: Use sheet size.
